Dr. Michael Leeson is a practicing psychiatrist in the Community Support Services division of The Wyandot Center for Community Behavioral Healthcare, Inc. He holds M.D. and Ph.D. degrees from The University of Kansas. He completed post-graduate training in Psychiatry and Internal Medicine. He is Board Certified in Psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, Inc.
Dr. Leeson’s medical interests include Schizophrenia, Schizoaffective Disorder, Posttraumatic Stress Disorder, and severe Mood Disorders. Additionally, he is involved in performance improvement and educational projects in various settings.
Dr. Leeson’s approach to psychiatric care is recovery-based, considering the consumer to be an expert in his or her mental illness. Dr. Leeson advocates a shared decision model, wherein the consumer and clinician work together to plan a course of treatment, considering the consumer’s treatment preferences, past experiences, and potential side effect profiles of treatment options. Dr. Leeson’s treatment philosophy involves integrating psychiatric medication into a broader treatment regimen, including personal medicine, group or individual psychotherapy, vocational rehabilitation, case management, and other modalities.
